Cupcakes At Carringtons - Alexandra Brown - Review

Cupcakes At Carringtons - Alexandra Brown

I tell you the truth bloggers, in the first page I thought maybe I wouldn't want to read it, because it seemed like it'd be just a fluffy gossip read. But I decided to give it a go and five pages later I had completely forgotten my first thought, and I really got into it.

This book is about Georgie, who loves her job as a sales clerk in a department store. But Georgie is stressed about money, and then it gets worse as she gets stressed about her job, stressed about her co-workers and stressed about her boss - not to mention her love life and that wealthy socialite who keeps leering at her.

I really found myself liking Georgie more and more the further I got into the book. Despite being a luxury handbag saleswoman, Georgie is not shallow or stupid and that appealed to me. Even though she makes some stupid decisions, it just makes her more human. She is a kind and caring friend who wants to do what's right by the people she knows.

The title is a bit out of place because the book's main theme is not really cakes or caf├ęs. The ending was very satisfying because the pace sped up, there was suspense, and there were several huge twists I never expected.

I would recommend this book with 4/5 stars.

Review Service

I accept books for review. I don't charge anything for this :-D
The genres I like the best are chick-lit, women's fiction, romance, thrillers and popular fiction in general. Paranormal phenomena like seeing visions, shape-shifting, reading minds, freezing time and so on is ok.

If your book is a different genre, I am in partnership with five other reviewers, whom I know personally in real life and who may be interested in reviewing your book instead of me. Between them they cover almost all genres including science fiction, erotica, young adult, teen and school-age books. It is up to you whether you would like me to contact them or not.

It usually takes three to six weeks to review a book, just depends on current real-life demands. If you would like to send your book for possible review please remember these points:
  • It must be ready for publication. This means it's copy-edited and developmentally-edited. If you don't know what they are then I'm not the right reviewer for you.
  • I don't promise to review it, I will look at the subject and blurb and perhaps read a chapter or two first. If I like it and decide to review, I read the whole thing.
  • If I review it I don't promise five stars. Because I pick and choose which books to read I usually enjoy the books and they will usually be 4-5 star reviews. Negative reviews hardly ever happen unless it's full of typos and bad grammar or I just can't finish the book. If you can't handle a 3-star review then I'm not the reviewer for you.
  • My reviews appear on my blog first and then on your Amazon, GoodReads or Smashwords page a week later, if you want them.
  • You can reproduce my reviews anywhere as long as you credit me.
How to send your book:

Send the WHOLE book, not just a sample. I prefer pdf, mobi or epub, (no doc files). Also attach the cover image. Make sure your subject line says this:
Book Review Request - Book Name - Author Name
In the body of the email put the title, genres, word count, buy link and a 2-3 paragraph synopsis.

I get a lot of submissions and can't reply to them all. But if I choose to review I will certainly let you know. If you have not heard back within 4 months then I'm sorry, I wasn't able to review your book.

I mentioned my partner reviewers above. They would not publish a review without contacting you first. If you don't want them to see your book please state this in your email.

The email for submission is below. Make sure you've read everything above!!!!
